Dr. Myra Elliot

BDS, FDSRCS (Eng), Dip Ortho RCS

Dr. Myra Elliot is the founder of Global Clinic, where she leads the organization’s oral and maxillofacial projects involving cleft lip and palate surgeries. A strong advocate for humanitarian work, she has been involved in leading teams on various medical outreach programmes since 1997 to destinations across Asia and Africa.

Dr. Elliot is an oral-maxillo-facial surgeon practising in Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre. She is also an honorary consultant in several other hospitals, and since 1987, has been a part-time teacher in the Faculty of Dentistry, National University of Singapore. In addition, she is a qualified orthodontist.

Dr. Chua Yang

Obstetrician & Gynaecologist, MBBS (Singapore), FRCOG (UK), FAMS, Graduate Diploma (Acupuncture), Graduate Diploma (Mental Health)

Dr. Chua Yang is a Founding Director at Global Clinic and head of the organization’s projects on women’s health.

Dr. Chua is the Director and Specialist Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at A Clinic For Women, Mt. Alvernia Hospital, Singapore. She graduated from the National University of Singapore, is a fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists, and a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore. She also holds graduate diplomas in acupuncture and in mental health.

She is a frequent speaker at Continuing Medical Education (CME) programs and public forums and has worked closely with private organizations as well as the Health Promotion Board, Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports, Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, WINGS, SCWO, Singapore Cancer Society and Breast Cancer Foundation. Dr. Chua also sits on the editorial boards of magazines such as Motherhood, Wellness No.1, Health No.1 and Prime, and was the President of the Asia Pacific Menopause Federation from 2013 to 2017.

Her passion in providing medical care for under-served women has brought her to different cultures and communities. She continues to volunteer her time and energy for women in different parts of the world, including China, Nepal, India, Indonesia, Niger, Zambia and Myanmar. In 2010, she started the Himalayan Women’s Health Project and introduced cervical cancer screening and pre-malignant disease treatment to a community of women in Ladakh, India, who had minimal access to cervical cancer prevention by vaccination or PAP smear.

Her philanthropic efforts were recognized in 2011 with a nomination to the Singapore Women’s Weekly “Great Women of Our Time” Awards.

Dr. Marcus Ang

MBBS, M Med (Ophthalmology), MCI, FRCS(Ed), FAMS, PhD (UG, Netherlands)

Dr. Marcus Ang is a Founding Director at Global Clinic and head of the organisation’s ophthalmology and vision projects.

Dr. Ang is a Senior Consultant at the Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC), Assistant Professor at Duke-National University of Singapore and Honorary Consultant at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London, UK. He has also been appointed Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh) and Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (FAMS). He also serves on the Board of the International Agency for Prevention of Blindness as well as Project ORBIS Singapore.

His achievements as a young ophthalmologist have led to him being awarded the Vision Excellence Award, IAPB (2020) and the Artemis Award, American Academy of Ophthalmology (2019).

His contributions to society and his humanitarian work have also been recognized. Dr. Ang has been awarded the Outstanding Service in Prevention of Blindness Award, APAO (2019), President’s Award for Volunteerism and Philanthropy, Singapore (2017), Excellence in Ophthalmology Vision Award, XOVA (2013), Young Eye Care Ambassador, Eye & Vision Health Awards, Singapore (2013), and the Healthcare Humanity Award, Singapore (2012) among other honors.

Dr. Yao Chao Shu

BDS (Singapore), MDS Prosthodontics (Adelaide), G Dip Acupuncture (Singapore)

Dr. Yao Chao Shu is a director at Global Clinic where she also leads the organisation’s dentistry projects.

She is an Associate Specialist at a leading private dental healthcare group in Singapore. She graduated from the National University of Singapore and completed her Masters Degree in Prosthodontics from Adelaide, Australia. She was the Past President of the Prosthodontic Society (Singapore). She also holds a graduate diploma in Acupuncture.

Mr Shalen De Silva

Treasurer

Shalen works in the Leveraged Finance department of a global bank, providing acquisition financing to financial sponsors. He is a qualified chartered accountant, having trained with Deloitte in London, and holds a BSc in Mathematics & Statistics from the London School of Economics and a Master of Finance from the University of Cambridge.

As Treasurer, Shalen oversees the management and administration of the accounts of Global Clinic. He is also instrumental in data collation and analysis for our medical missions and is actively involved in Global Clinic education projects.

Adrian Siew

Treasurer

With 20 years in the finance industry, Adrian has worked in various financial centres around the world during his tenure with Goldman Sachs and The Carlyle Group. Adrian graduated with First Class Honours in Bsc (Economics) Accounting and Finance from London School of Economics. In his free time, Adrian is an avid traveller and is involved in various voluntary projects around the region. As the Treasurer, he oversees the financial management of Global Clinic and is actively involved in the planning and execution of the group’s various initiatives.

Ms. Lynette Ooi

Legal Advisor

Lynette is a commercial lawyer with 6 years’ experience and particular expertise in the telecommunications, media and technology industries. She holds a LLB from the University of Bristol and a Postgraduate Certificate in Laws (PCLL) from the University of Hong Kong, and is qualified to practise as a solicitor in both Singapore and Hong Kong. In her free time, she provides pro bono advice to start-ups and non-profit organisations and supports causes across Asia relating to poverty alleviation.

As Legal Advisor, Lynette provides legal support for all aspects of Global Clinic’s activities. She also manages the website, assists in external communications and is actively involved in Global Clinic education projects.

Dr. Tham Siew Nee

MBBS Adelaide (1974), M Med Singapore (1980), FAMS (1985), Head of General Medicine.

Dr Tham is a dermatologist in private practice at Gleneagles Medical Centre. She graduated from the University of Adelaide and did a Masters in internal medicine, followed by specialist training in dermatology in Singapore. She is a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore and a visiting consultant to the Dermatology Department, Singapore General Hospital.
