Dr. Myra Elliot
BDS, FDSRCS(Eng), Dip Ortho RCS, Founder Director and Head of Dentistry.
An oral-maxillo-facial surgeon practising in Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre, Myra is the founder of and force behind Global Clinic. She is an honorary consultant in several other hospitals, and since 1987, has been a part-time teacher in the Faculty of Dentistry, National University of Singapore. In addition, Myra is a qualified orthodontist.
Myra believes in “dentistry behind borders”. This philosophy was the inspiration behind her volunteer work and her founding of Global Clinic, a charity that began in 1997 with a group of doctors looking to make a difference in a region rife with poverty, but has since snowballed into a force of good that has changed the lives of 30,000 people.
Dr. Chua Yang
MBBS (S'pore), G Dip Acupuncture (S'pore), G Dip Mental Health (S'pore), MRCOG (UK), FAMS, Director and Head of Women's Health.
Dr Chua Yang graduated from the National University of Singapore. She is a member of the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists, MRCOG (UK), and a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (FAMS). She also holds a graduate diploma in acupuncture. Dr Chua Yang is the director of and the Senior Obstetrician & Gynaecologist at A Clinic for Women.
Dr. Marcus Ang
MBBS, MMED (Ophthalmology), MCI (NUS), Director and Head of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Marcus Ang is Consultant at the Singapore National Eye Centre. He has also been appointed Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons ( Edinburgh ) and Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (FAMS). Dr. Ang has developed his clinical specialty in Cornea Transplantation and was rewarded with a Hon. Consultant position at the prestigious Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, UK. Inspired by Dr. Myra Elliott’s compassion and enthusiasm, Marcus joined Global Clinic to help organize Vision Projects. Active beyond his clinical responsibilities and in addition to his work with Global Clinic, Dr. Ang isAssistant Professor at DUKE-NUS, teaches undergraduates as Clinical Lecturer (NUS) and organizes charity events with the Singapore Society of Ophthalmology. His contributions to society and volunteer humanitarian work in Singapore and developing countries have been recognized with national awards such as the Healthcare Humanity Award in 2012 and Young Eye Care Ambassador award in 2013 (Eye & Vision Health Awards, Singapore); as well as international awards such as the Excellence in Ophthalmology Vision Award (XOVA International 2013).
Mr Shalen De Silva
Shalen works in the Leveraged Finance department of a global bank, providing acquisition financing to financial sponsors. He is a qualified chartered accountant, having trained with Deloitte in London, and holds a BSc in Mathematics & Statistics from the London School of Economics and a Master of Finance from the University of Cambridge.
As Treasurer, Shalen oversees the management and administration of the accounts of Global Clinic. He is also instrumental in data collation and analysis for our medical missions and is actively involved in Global Clinic education projects.
Ms. Elizabeth Tan
Elizabeth holds a joint B.A(Hon.) in History from the National University of Singapore and McGill University. She is currently the Managing Director of Heatwave Shoes, a fast-growing Singapore-based shoe retailer with 40 stores internationally and a vision to empower women in their journeys. Bringing together her passion for entrepreneurship and social work, she has held several positions in non-profit organisations including the Singapore International Foundation.
As Strategy Officer, Elizabeth is responsible for the strategic growth and development of new programmes under Global Clinic. She is also actively involved in expanding the IMPACT program and education initiatives.
Ms. Lynette Ooi
Lynette is a commercial lawyer with 6 years’ experience and particular expertise in the telecommunications, media and technology industries. She holds a LLB from the University of Bristol and a Postgraduate Certificate in Laws (PCLL) from the University of Hong Kong, and is qualified to practise as a solicitor in both Singapore and Hong Kong. In her free time, she provides pro bono advice to start-ups and non-profit organisations and supports causes across Asia relating to poverty alleviation.
As Legal Advisor, Lynette provides legal support for all aspects of Global Clinic’s activities. She also manages the website, assists in external communications and is actively involved in Global Clinic education projects.
Dr. Tham Siew Nee
MBBS Adelaide (1974), M Med Singapore (1980), FAMS (1985), Head of General Medicine.
Dr Tham is a dermatologist in private practice at Gleneagles Medical Centre. She graduated from the University of Adelaide and did a Masters in internal medicine, followed by specialist training in dermatology in Singapore. She is a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore and a visiting consultant to the Dermatology Department, Singapore General Hospital.
