Volunteer

At Global Clinic, we believe in putting our patients and beneficiaries first in everything we do.
Consequently, our volunteers are carefully selected and assigned to duties they are best qualified to perform. We welcome volunteers who share our vision of providing first-class health care to those who need it most, and who are willing to invest their skills, passion and commitment to improving the lives of our beneficiaries.
Please see below for specific information depending on whether you are keen to participate as a medically-qualified or non-medically qualified volunteer.

All volunteers are expected to comply with the Global Clinic Volunteer Code of Conduct.

Medical volunteers

Our medical volunteers include qualified surgeons, doctors, physicians and nurses spanning a wide range of specialist and non-specialist fields. Volunteers are recruited on a needs basis depending on the requirements of the patients and community being served.

Global Clinic also values the contributions of its non-medical volunteers. This group of volunteers has included students and other individuals who participate in appropriate medical missions, as well as non-medical professionals contributing specific expertise.

Join a medical mission

Specific medical missions may require assistance from non-medically qualified personnel. For example, on Vision projects, volunteers can be trained to assist in eye testing and examination, diagnosis of common conditions, distribution of reading glasses and eyedrops, fitting of prescription spectacles, management of patient flow and education of patients on good eye care habits. These activities can have an enormous impact on the well-being of a community.

Help us raise funds

Global Clinic's activities are funded solely by private donations from individuals and corporations, and mostly on an ad-hoc basis. In order to maintain a sufficient level of funds for our missions, we will from time to time need assistance in raising funds, whether by organising an event or starting a campaign to fund a particular project.

Assist in a professional or administrative role

Many of our non-medical volunteers, including our Management Committee members, contribute their professional and administrative expertise to support our programmes and missions. There is a lot to do behind the scenes, including planning and logistics, training and education, marketing and public relations, website management and info-communications, preparation and execution of grant proposals, liaisons with partners and sponsors, data management, financial and account management, etc.

VOLUNTEER CODE OF CONDUCT

Introduction

Global Clinic Limited (“Global Clinic”) strives for the highest standards of professional integrity and accountability in all its endeavours. This code of conduct sets out the principles to guide volunteers when dealing with patients, other volunteers and the communities which we serve.

Personal conduct

Volunteers must display the highest personal and professional conduct in carrying out their duties and responsibilities. They must treat all members of Global Clinic’s partner organisations and all hosts and patients with courtesy and respect at all times, and must display sensitivity to local beliefs, traditions, cultures and religions. Volunteers should also refrain from making political statements.

Conflicts of interest

Volunteers must avoid any activity that could be seen as a conflict of interest, such as accepting gifts or favours from individuals or businesses that could be perceived as an attempt to influence a Global Clinic decision.

Patient information

Global Clinic takes the confidentiality of patient information very seriously. Volunteers must respect the confidentiality of patient information and use such information only for the purposes of treating such patients and otherwise to improve the health care of Global Clinic’s beneficiary communities.

The environment

Global Clinic aims to leave as little environmental impact as possible on the locations it visits. Volunteers are expected to refrain from littering or damaging the local environment, and to thoroughly clean up after themselves, including by disposing of medical waste via appropriate channels.

Costs and expenses

Global Clinic does not operate for profit and strives to ensure that the vast majority of the funds received from donors reach our beneficiaries in the form of medical supplies and equipment. In line with this principle, volunteers are expected to work for free and to foot the cost of their transport and accommodation on missions. When procuring supplies and equipment, and when arranging logistics for and on missions, volunteers are expected to take steps to minimise costs and expenses.
